An alternate should be to drive on the Kaghan Valley that is a 6 -hour push from Islamabad and can be achieved inside of a weekend (e.g. leaving Friday lunchtime and overnighting in Abbottabad) - but superior to prepare 3 or even more nights if you can. Beware of landslides on the other hand if it's been raining - these can easily get you stranded
